Solved Registry Defragging?

Hello all,

I'm sure this subject is beat to death, but I've been searching and cant find a thing, is registry defragging the same as registry cleaning, as far as effects of course. I know they perform different things but are they both harmful to the system?

Hello CrucialHoax,

Registry defragging is the same as defragging the hard drive to remove wasted space. It will not harm you registry unlike how a registry cleaner can by actually deleting registry entries.

I'm currently using that now, I downloaded it last night. It's very simple interface and does a good job. I was just curious if they were harmful. One more tool to add to the list then. Thanks guys :)

If you defrag your HD regularly, I believe it is redundant for additional registry fragmentation though it is not harmful.

There are several good registry defraggers on the market. I like NTREGOPT by the makers of ERUNT.

But, IMO, there's really no need for it unless your registry is severely fragmented due to multiple issues (and then you're likely to have a lot of other problems that need fixing).

You assume that a reg defragger (cleanere) just defrags the registry when in fact they also remove outdated points, references, empty keys, etc. So you do need to do both

Hi Ken,

We are discussing about reg defragger but not reg cleaner which are two different things.

We have established earlier as by Brink: "Registry defragging is the same as defragging the hard drive to remove wasted space. It will not harm you registry unlike how a registry cleaner can by actually deleting registry entries."

If the purpose of both defragger and registry defragger are "to remove wasted space"; therefore, I assume with logic that it is redundant.

Disk defrag ....will put all files ,folders,prograrms and all other stuff back to the shells.
Dick cleaner ..will clean out all junks....left over temp/files.....etc....
Registry cleaner ...will clean out "Delete" ..all broken/invalid registries ..
Registry defrag ....will Actually put back all registries in order ....nothing else ....

Better....?;)

I knew, atleast, that when defragging the program would sort everything into its correct keys, but I thought in that process information would be deleted, corrupt, or invalid. But I stand corrected, and now know it's safer than "cleaning". The auslogics application dropped my reboot time by 20 seconds... Either way it's a great utility. Thanks guys :)

I didn't realise that Auslogics wasn't a freeware program, is there a decent registry defragger out there that is freeware? Thanks :)

Auslogicis does have a great free hard drive defraggmenter program, but yeah not a free one anymore for the registry.

Registry Clean Expert is a great free registry defragger though. :)
