Temporary File Trouble

Hi all,

i'm having some trouble with temporary files.

I've read the guide on how to remove them, and that's great, works well. But my hardrive regularly gets clogged up with them. It's not uncommon for disc cleanup to find more than 100GB of temporary files to remove, and i have to do so about once every few weeks.

Surely vista should cleanup temporary files automatically once it's done using them? Is there anything i can do, is something shot, or are we looking at a possible virus? (spyware terminator and clamAV are coming up clear)

Thanks in advance

I don't know of any way to limit the size of the temporary folder. I'm not sure this can be done.

CCleaner is a fast way to empty the temp folder, and you can automate this process.

Hey powelly

How big is your disc if it has 100gig of temp files it must be huge. there must be something else in there. Do you know which folders are growing? there is a third party app called treesize pro that will tell you and the trial is free. Let us know abt youd HD and what folders and im sure we can figure it out for you

that's exactly the point, it's not huge, it's only 250GB. Partitioned to a 10GB and a 222GB (god knows where the other 18GB went :p) so i'm regularly getting totaly clogged with temporary files. Disc cleanup takes care of it, but i don't think i should have to be removing such huge amounts, so regularly

If you find out which folder the files are we can figure out waht is putting them there. Treesize looks like this and would help.

You can also use tressize to see what the extension are of the biggest number of files. Usually if its temo files it will be *.tmp. I have a feeling its not temp files. there are just way to many of them.

I will be around when the y build up

Good luck
