Sidebar background color problem at system startup?

Hello,

I am having a problem that maybe some one in this forum can help me with. On occasion, when I start up my PC (running Vista64 sp2 OS) my sidebar has a white background instead of the usual translucent one. If I close the side bar, the white background remains with holes in it where the Gadget icons were. Logging off of Windows Vista and then back on again fixes the problem. Has anyone else had this specific problem? Is this a glitch with Vista OS and there is no cure?

Any help appreciated,

MichaelR

I'm gonna guess it's either a GPU or Ram problem if either is underpowered you may not be able to run vista's Aero graphics.

I don't think my problem is caused by either GPU or RAM under power. I've got a pretty souped up computer.

What's strange to me about this problem is it only happens once in a blue moon. If it happened all of the time, I'll bet I could fix it.

Sometime AV program trying to block it to open in the full operation ...
until it goes through it scanning ...

or maybe just a glitch ...here and there ....nothing harmful ...

Every OS or ps has its own little bugs ... IMO

I agree with tek101. It is probably a glitch of which we all have some. I suspect some program (and the security program is a good guess) that interferes at startup. Next time it happens, let it sit there as is for 10 or 20 minutes and see whether it goes away. You can also run Process Explorer whilst it is happening to see which processes are active and shut some down to see whether that helps.

Ah, it's intermittent. If that's the case I agree with tek it's probably software issues. Try running a starup manager like auslogics or the like and cut out any no vital programs one at a time. If it's just one program it's an easy fix.

Hello,

Thanks to all for your input. I do have Norton Internet Security 2009 installed. I wonder if I went into my firewall settings and set sidebar to "allow" instead of "auto" if that would solve my problem?

Also: Anyone have their internet connect icon on the lower right of the screen show the blue bubble connect indicator on and off repeatedly, yet the internet connection works either way?
