Getting Old Files After Using Factory Recovery Hp Compaq Vista

Here`s my question.

Is it possible to recover or view files that were not backed up at all before or during the factory recovery?

I`m not talking factory restore, Im talking factory recovery.
My D drive is the factory image partition.

I recently did a factory recovery which apparently completely wipes all memory that was not backed up and restores the computer to its original factory shipped condition.

The harddrive, before the recovery, had some personal information, bank info and whatnot, that was deleted, however, my computer is gonna be sold soon and knowing that people can recover deleted files even after having deleted them, I decided to use factory recovery as well to insure the safety of my info.

I am, now, just confirming that the files are indeed safe.Is there any way to recover them, even after the recovery?

Im running on a Compaq presario vista 32

Hi god162534 and welcome to Vista Forums

It really depends on what the person who ends up with your laptop intends to do with it. For the layperson, you should be OK. However, old data can be forensically recovered from a HDD using specialised techniques - these are the methods used by data recovery specialists.

If you really want to make sure that this data is completely deleted, then software exists that can overwrite the contents of a HDD multiple times to render such content unrecoverable.

Thnx for info.

First of all, I tried recuva as well as several other free sevices, none of which found anything from the old hdd.

As for multiple deletions, I can`t seem to recover the info now, so how do i multiply delete something I can`t get? Would running another factory recover make it even harder to obtain my info?
