Solved Administrative Tools - How do I enable Event Viewers?

These two Admin. Tools are not running;

Administrative Events -



and,

Network Diagnostic Events



I would like to know how I go about enabling both.

In msconfig under Services, is Windows Event Log checked?

It seems one of your logs is corrupt. You have to clear the problematic log - you can save the contents before clearing, but to view it you might have to use an external application (a text editor).

Try opening all the Windows Logs (Application, Security, Setup, etc.). See if any of them are corrupt, and clear those that are (right click and select Clear Log...). It will prompt for a save.

This is the only other, with a similar warning



No other Log entries show corruption of any sort.

Have you tried clearing it? Did it help?

Not yet. Still working my way through some of the Help advice, including Online, and will post results....if any.

Sorry, but not understood.....the size of which log file? Neither of the examples above, give access to Properties for a determination of size.

I'm talking about the size of your system event log file. It will be saved in C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\system.evtx.

Pls post the size of the file.

This is as far down that track as I can go! System File shows 20MB

That's where the problem started.

Basically the maximum size of the system eventlog allowed by default is 20480 kb. If the log file exceeded that limit, then you cannot apply custom filters like administrative filter and network diagnostic.

Thats what happening to you

You have two options now,
1. To clear the system event log (or)
2. to increase the log file size and allow to be overwritten.



To clear the log right click on system and click on clear log.

To increase the size, increase the maximum log size and click the radio icon at overwrite events as needed, In the property window.

All sorted nicely delfin, and since there was over 2 years worth of 'gunk' in the Log, I saved it first to a Folder, then Cleared it.

Have also upped the capacity just a little, with the overwrite active as well.
