how do you IM from command prompt?

hey guys, just a quick question, how do you IM from command prompt? I've heard of it, and tried one method, but it didn't work. i used:

net send <IP address here> message here

it may be wrong, but ive read that's how to do it. i tried it with a friend last night, but nothing worked. it just said it couldn't find the file.

'net send' was not added in vista and has been replaced by 'msg', but i think its only available in business, enterprise or ultimate editions of vista. try msg /? at the command prompt.

As far as I understood, the service is disabled by default, and in order to send or receive using the net send or msg or whatever it's called nowadays, the service must be activated on both machines. There is also supposed to be a good piece of freeware out there that utilizes this feature...
