I am running on a (Last time i checked) 32bit vista family premium computer and I am planning to do a system restore I was wondering whether it would delete all my files that are not in My Documents and are in My other local disk , D. So I have this other removable hard drive, E. I attempted to put all my stuff in a folder i made there but then my computer got stuck and i had to hold the power off button. Next time i turned on the computer the file couldn't be touched... You couldn't delete, it put anything in it or rename it etc. Is it necessary to copy all the files onto my e drive? If so how do I do a system restart? Do I have to tap f11 when it starts up? If you could give me any extra info that would be wonderful. Oh and I'm only 12 so don't give me all the hard stuff. THANKS SO MUCH!

karoltgreat, you want to do a lot and I hope you have the patience to wait for answers before you attempt anything.

First question is... WHY do you want to do a System Restore? Do you know what that means?

If I understand correctly, you have 3 hard drives? C:, D: & E:... is that correct? if not, explain that part again please.

System Restore, F11, I think this is only true if you have a 3rd party software like Norton, Acronis, otherwise, if you want to do a system restore with Vista, you may need to boot with the Vista CD/DVD.

The file can't be touch because you may need to give yourself admin rights in order for you to change anything on it, right now you may only have Read-Only rights... if this is the case, right click on the file or folder, go to properties and find the security tab, give yourself Full Admin Rights there.

You only need to back up data that you want to put back after the system restore... music, images, school documents (homework), game saves.

Remember... a system restore will put your system exactly how it came when the computer was new so, if you have install something after that, you will have to do so again.

Thanks so much for your help. I know I am asking for a lot but I am in desparation Because I found out that the folder can't be touched because there is something wrong with the drive..Everything's been deleted! All my pictures and memories etc:cry:. I opened up another topic hoping someone would help me with that. I don' know what a third party is but when I first started up the computer I had Norton 360 and the start up had the logo of Packard bell on it. I want a system Restore because my computer has been acting very weirdly lately (lots of jams, it's getting slower and all sorts of unexpected stuff. Again thank you very much and I will continue with the system resore later after I have sorted my problems with the E drive which for some reason H now. Thank you!
