Laptop can't find my CD-DVD Rom

[FONT=&quot]I've seen many posts where someone has had a similar situation, but in each case I have read it seemed that the person recently installed Vista on their PC as an up grade from XP. Also, if I read them correctly, they were able to see their device in the device manager. As for me, the device (DVD/CD ROM drive) does not appear in the device manager but I do find the drives for it listed in the Registry. I did have I Tunes installed so I uninstalled that and all programming related to it except Quick Time, but I have blocked all updates to it. Finally, within the Registry, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I removed the upper and lower filters, of which there was actually only the lower filter. Within the above key there are four “sub” keys: 0000, 0001, 0002 an Properties. The first three are all identical but the last one, Properties, gives me an error message when I try to access it. “Properties can not be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: Access is denied.” I did a sampling within this section of the registry and I get the same message on all the property keys.[/FONT]
