I copied a small file from my XP to a cd to install on new laptop with Vista Home Basic. Everytime I try to run the program on Vista it tells me to insert the cd. Why won't it save the file? Thanks for the help.

1. What is on the CD (data, programs, etc.?)
2. " Everytime I try to run the program on Vista ... " - what program are we talking about?
3. How do you try to read the CD?

Could you tell us abt the app you are trying to copy from xp to vista. Is it a document, an application, an installer, etc. Is there more than 1 file to copy? how did you copy (drag and drop, teracopy, other)?

It is an application (.exe). It's called snoop lock and is a mic lock used to lock my mic when I am playing music in a Yahoo chat room. It eliminates the need to hold down the "talk" button. When I put the cd in, it shows on my drive "E". I right click on it and click "open" in the drop down menu. The program box pops up on my desktop and looks like it's ready to use but when I take the cd out, it won't work. I have also tried to save it in Documents but that doesn't work either. I tells me to insert the cd. What am I doing wrong?

Did it work on a previous OS without the cd being in? Or it may just be copy protection to make sure you have a valid copy like on some games

Yes, it does work on my XP without the cd. I'm new to Vista and it seems to make everything I try to do so difficult. It's a very small program. I downloaded it from the web but now I can't find it to download again so I copied it to the cd. What is the procedure for saving something I copied to a cd onto Vista laptop?

Open up Windows Explorer, double click on the drive and then right click on the app. Select copy and then paste onto your desktop. Vista should automatically run it as an administrator. See the screenshot I've attached.
