Magnifier display issues with photo gallery and videos

Hello,

I am having issues with my windows vista ultimate 32-bit ease to access magnifier. For some reason my magnifier can't display any images from the photo gallery in any format, like jpg, or bmp. All I see in the display of the magnifier is white space.

Also how do you get the magnifier to sit behind the background when you play a full screen video from windows media player 11, Real Media, and VLC Player??? Every time I start any video from any format, such as avi, or rm. in full screen mode. The magnifier sits on top of the video blocking part of the video. I would have to turn it off just so it wouldn't block part of my video. This gets annoying having to turn it off and then on again.

I have been searching all over the internet for a solution to these problems, but I could not find any. I also have tried othe magnifier software such as Magnify glass pro and Izoom, but it does not seem to work the same as windows magnifier.

I never had any issues like this when I was using windows XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're interested in third-party magnifiers, I suggest a script for AutoHotkey. Since it's a script, it's entirely customizable (if you feel like scripting), and any script can be converted to a normal executable (.exe). I tried it with Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic, and Windows Photo Gallery - and it worked fine no issues.

Let me know if you need help with it, it's easier than it looks.

Thanks for sharing your information. Did you write the script for the magnifier only??? Is it possible if you could share the script with me??? I have no experience in scripting, but I am willing to give it a try.

Thanks,

Can't help you with the magnifier app, but here's a work-around suggestion for magnifying your photos, that might help while you're hunting for a solution. The Microsoft Office Picture Manager that is built into Vista, (but it's not the "default" so most people don't even realize it's there!), has a built in magnifier that easily allows you to view all of your photos magnified to very large (or reduced to very small as well). MS Picture Manager is also a photo gallery, and it's an easy way to access and view all of your photos, not to mention the fact that it's a great photo editing app!

PS The magnifier in MS Picture Manager is located in the Zoom slider that's at the bottom-right side of the screen.

Thanks,

Here's an executable ready version of two magnifier scripts I found (tested them myself). The first one has keyboard shortcuts. The second one is a little more GUI-friendly.

Keyboard shortcuts for the first one:
Win+p: show/hide
Win+x: close/exit
Win+a: anti-alias (soften/pixelated)
Ctrl+Shift+mousewheel up/down: Zoom in/out

View attachment Magnifier.exe

View attachment Magnifier 2.exe

Let me know if these worked out for you. Enjoy! :D

Wow these magnifiers are great. Thanks for the help. This will take some time to get use to. I do noticed that both magnifiers don't show the mouse cursor in the magnifier display. Is there anyway that you can modify the script to display the mouse cursor in the magnifier???

Also I noticed that when I right click on the magnifer icon. The menu does not display in the magnfier and when I type it does not follow the mouse cursor.

Can this magnifer be enhanced if all possible???

Other than that I think its really good.

I have yet to learn more scripting for AutoHotkey. At the moment I can't really modify these two scripts for your suggestions - they're slightly too advanced for me. If I do get around to it, I'll PM you. Otherwise, you can learn scripting yourself if you wish. You can also try contacting the guy who wrote these scripts and get him to do it... :)

Well, I believe I have figured out the answer to solve the magnifer display problems by turning off Windows Aero. Now I can view images in the photo gallery and other software applications like 3DS Max and Photoshop CS4. The magnifer still has a problem were it sits on top of a full screen video. Where as Windows XP it sat behind a full screen video.

Now I gotta figure out how to make the windows vista basic appearance be more like windows aero with a darker color scheme.

Here ya go -- Magnifying Glass Pro 1.8 just for you!!! Giveaway of the Day, free today only, at Giveaway of the Day - free licensed software daily.

Magnifying Glass Pro 1.8 - The Magnifying Glass Pro utility is a virtual magnifier (virtual lens, screen-zoomer) that enables you to enlarge (magnify) text and graphics as they are displayed on your computer monitor or attached television screen, or projected onto a larger media during a presentation (e.g., using an application such as PowerPoint). As you pass your mouse cursor over a section of the viewing area, the display is magnified making it instantly more readable and accessible. In addition, you can apply a variety of visual effects and enhancements to that display.

Unique FeaturesMagnifying Glass Pro differs from similar utilities with the inclusion of a unique set of features, including:
  • Modification of an onscreen image in real time (e.g., adjust contrast, add special effects, smoothing, and so on).
  • Adjust the screen position of the magnifying Glass (e.g., a fixed position, under the cursor, angular, and so on).
  • Save multiple set of viewing preferences as individual Profiles, then switch between those Profiles instantly (e.g., you can have one Profile for viewing text and another for working with graphic images).
  • Show/hide the Magnifying Glass simply by shaking the mouse cursor from side to side. This is much easier than using the keyboard shortcut when your hand is already on the mouse.
  • Command Mode, which enables you to quickly change/apply Magnifying Glass options (e.g., Glass size and position, transparency, contrast, effects, and so on).
  • The Auto-switcher, which enables you to associate individual applications, windows, and screen elements with specific user-defined Profiles (group of Glass settings). As the "target" changes (e.g., you switch applications) the Auto-switcher applies the appropriate Glass settings automatically, based on the defined Profile association, with no interruption to your productivity.
  • No restrictions on how you can use Magnifying Glass Pro. You control the size and position of the Glass -- it can occupy the entire screen, or a smaller, user-defined area. It can even extend beyond the edges of your screen to move to a second monitor. You can quickly and easily apply a myriad of effects to enhance your viewing experience and solve the sophisticated needs of any text- or graphics-based project.
