Solved Quick Launch Taskbar Icons Problem

longbelly

New Member
My Vista taskbar icons are set to large and the taskbar is not locked - no problems ever. However, I have just installed the latest Adobe Reader update (9.1.3) and several of the taskbar quick launch 'buttons' show and work but the icons themselves do not show - ie the icons are blank. I have tried re-installing the shortcuts, also changing the icons to small but that makes no difference. Not sure where to go from here? Also carried out a full virus scan but nothing found.

Thanks Brink, I think I will try this, although I am just a bit wary of deleting what are in effect system files. What puzzles me though, is that when creating shortcuts for the 'offending' apps on my desktop the icons do show OK. It's just on the Quick Launch taskbar they won't?

Strange. Are you using shortcuts created directly from the source file or program exe file in Quick Launch instead of a copy of another shortcut?

No, but recently I created other toolbars using folders of shortcuts I created in My Documents. This meant I could have a double height taskbar with seperate toolbars to organize my icons. This worked perfectly for a while, until some of the icons vanished. I then went back to using the Quick Launch only and deleted the shorcut folders from Documents. It did look something like this: here

Creating new shortcuts directly from the source, then moving them into Quick Launch should have them work properly for you.

I'm afraid that I can't see the image since it requires a membership to see it there.

Your first paragraph I agree with - but when I create shortcuts direct from the Program .exe files into Quick Launch the shortcuts show but a few are without icons. The offending icons do show on the start menu and desktop though.

Sorry about the link not working - it just showed a two tier taskbar with the grouped toolbars on the bottom tier.

What programs are these for? We can see if someone with the same programs are seeing the same thing.

My guess is that since they show icons everywhere else, that the exe files just do not include a icon that small in it. If you use small icons at where they normally display, do they still display the icon afterwards?

They all did show in quick launch for both large and small, except Q10 which only showed up in large. I have just installed the latest update for GooodSync and the icon shows OK in quick launch.
