New HDD & Factory Recovery Disks

Recently my HHD crashed on my HP a6110n Desktop and I had to replace it. Since I did not have recovery disks, I ordered them on the HP website. So far I have been unsuccessful in recovering my system to factory condition. The computer will boot up until the Recovery Image window, I then make my selection to restore the system but the program will remain at 0% progress and will not progress. Hp tech support informed me that I had to purchase the drive direct fom them in order for the recovery CDs to work or purchase a new OS for the new drive.:sarc: Another tech person informed that I have to install the same capacity HDD that came with the system for the CDs to work.???? I do not agree with these recommendations.

Can anyone give some advice on how to fix the problem?

Often when you get a new computer the MFR puts a canned image onto it. It may contain multimedia utilities that start before windows, a recover partition, and lots more.
Does the new HD have an OS on it? Is it partitioed? to restore an image it has to have a source and destination. usually the destination is the 0 partition on the 0 drive (drive C: but if hp loaded something else before how would the restore know that

This is one of the main reasons I always use a third party imaging suite like acronis.

Could you tell us what state the HD is currently in. is it formatted? partitioned? etc

Thanks in advance
