I can't open my device manager from anywhere

I don't ever use this laptop as my desktop is my main computer. But since I went wireless at home, I figured I should get my laptop to recognize my home network. My laptop couldn't find any network (it just kept thinking and thinking), but if I connect it directly to the router I can access the internet. I decided to troubleshoot; I am logged in as administrator. That's when I realized my device manager wouldn't open nor could I open a setup file for Network Magic (a program to help connect my laptop wirelessly). I actually can't open a lot of things in the device manager, at least anything that would be usefull to solving my problem. I have also noticed that it says "Not available" for Memory and Processor in the System subfolder in the Control Panel.

I took my CPU to Best Buy. They said it was an OS problem. Uninstall and reinstall should fix it. Problem is I don't have the OS CD; it was bought in another state. They want to charge me at least $200. So other than reinstalling the OS, are there any solutions?

We could probably walk you thru all the fixes you need but there is an obvious problem with the system that can only really be cured by a clean re-install. Make sure you backup first and if you need to search here for where to download a vista system OS. As long as you have the sticker on you rcomputer with the key you should be fine

let us know if you need help
