Hello rcec,

Put your install disk into the drive and try a repair install.
Though if your BIOS has been messed up, you may try replacing the motherboard battery and updating the BIOS.

No problem. Updating the BIOS is a BIG deal, and should NOT be done by someone who is not willing to fry their motherboard.

The battery is easy though. Simply open your case, and look around on the motherboard for a small round silver battery. Similar to a watch battery. It is usually a CR2032, though make sure you check. Simply pull that out and put in a new one.

The BIOS update is motherboard specific. You would need to look up your motherboard, see if it has an update, then follow their instructions.

for the motherboard and bios as you said it is very tough so i guess i will checked that later because im not pretty sure if i can do that.for now my ignorance is killing me..sorry for that word i guess im to desperate to fix my computer.anyway thanks again for the reply and i hope you can help me more.

My Computer

Interesting. It seems that your motherboard is no longer finding your drives. Which I think a BIOS update might help with, perhaps not....

Open your case and make sure all the connections are secure.

Oh, its a laptop.........
That makes it harder. I actually don't even know if they use mobo batteries.....

You might be better off taking it into a shop and asking them to update the BIOS for you.

My professional suggestion would be that it needs to get the BIOS fixed. This can be done by you, or taken to a shop. Only attempt it if you can find step by step instructions on it.

You could also see if the hard drive is at fault by downloading an Ubuntu live cd and seeing if it recognized the hard drive, listed by its size in GB's.

I was wondering what you were saying about the bios battery, I knew it was a laptop.

Try running some diagnostics in your bios first mate.
(when you find that boot list its in there) also unplug all usb devices to your laptop and turn it on ONLY with the power plugged in. see how that goes.

ok sony should have a symbol like this 2 circles on top of another with another a dot in the center of one, open that up, take the Hard drive out, put it back in, and it should work. if not in the vista repair screen open up a command window and type chkdsk -r

Except that it is not reading multiple drives.....

Yes but the boot order as you said listed a usb as being in place for HDD therefore take everything out and just use it as you got it from the factory. try also to take out your HDD and put it back in.
