Dual boot both Vista 64

For a video editing function I want to have a lean boot of Vista 64 and then another boot with all the other programs that I use. When I try to do a second boot with the recovery disks, I do not get a chance to designate the empty partition for the second boot. It just wants to do a recovery install on the existing boot. What is the procedure I need to use?

You can't use the recovery disks. You need a non-destructive partition app and plenty of space as well as a new vista install disk. The easiest way would be to buy a second hard disk and install a new install of Vista onto that. Or try Vmware player, if you have plenty of ram and a good cpu, but maybe not for video editing work.
