Hello Gray, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if runinng a startup repair may be able to fix this for you. If you have not OS option to select from, go ahead and click on next anyway.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Can you use the recovery disc to re-install back to factory settings?

Reboot with the disk in the drive and when it shows Vista choose install and then advanced. Check if your hard drive is listed.

Does loading the driver enable the hard drive?

If its a desktop, open up the case and make sure the hard drive is plugged in properly and is also attached to the power supply. It could also be that your hard drive has failed, so you could also buy a relatively cheap 1TB replacement and use that.
