Help me analyse my CBS log

Hello all,

I am just recovering from several viruses that were found by ad-aware, avg and spy doctor. I took evasive action and tried to clean things up but it kept coming back. Luckily I have Fedora on my machine as well and I swicthed over and used clamav and fpscan (i think) to sort things out. I think everything is complelty fine now since no more messages from any of my windows software telling me my machine is infected.

However, I think I have deleted core files that Vista needs. I have noticed it takes a long time to turn my machine off. I have to hit the power button to turn it off! Also when I open up my wireless network manager it hangs and doesn't even come up. I am able to use the office suite and all my browsers.

Long story short, someone told me to scan my vista machine using vista utility and I have a CBS log which is telling me that some things are corrupt. I need help deciphering it. It is 33MB - wtf? I just had a look. I have no run a

Code:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt
Not sure what this does to be honest.

I would appreciate any help. Sorry for the essay!

Re: Help me analyse my CBS log

Have you or has any of your "AV" software disabled any running processes? that is most likely the issue.

does your windows sidebar work? can you use your printer?

what were the trojan/virus's you had and how did the software clean them? what software picked them up?

lots of complicated questions i know :P

Have you tried system restore? its most likely the easiest route

Re: Help me analyse my CBS log

Hi archie123 - Thanks for your reply.

To be honest, I have had a look around again and everything seems to be working its just that some windows hang for a long time and killing that process does nothing.

My windows sidebar works, I can print too, even wirelessly!

I wish I could remember what viruses I removed and what I deleted. I was just so desperate to get rid of them, I slaughtered anything else in the way! :P

Is there maybe something else I can use to check the integrity of vista core files that isn't so complicated?! I can't help feeling and seeing that Vista is suffering because I've messed things up.

Re: Help me analyse my CBS log

the easiest thing to do mate is a system restore , try that first , go back to before you had any virus's if that doesnt help (im sure it will) then we can go into it in more detail.

looking at your log it all seems fine you could also try reinstalling the drivers for your wireless card and reinstall the wireless utility

Ok, I will try that. I am not usually keen system restores but I am sure it will work. Thanks archie123.
