| XP and Vista Home | New WD external drive-any problem using on both XP and Vista Home? I just purchased a WD 1TB MyBook Home Edition and didn't realize it was preformatted for a Mac and have to reformat for Windows. I have to back up personal files & media from my work PC (XP). We also have a PC with Vista home and are in the process of purchasing a new laptop that has Vista. If I format for Windows XP, am I able to save files from Vista PC? Or should I format for Vista and am I able to save from XP machines? I'm confused! Thanks, Nadine |

| Vista Ultimate 64bit | Re: New WD external drive-any problem using on both XP and Vista Home? If formatted NTFS (Windows) you can use it on either machine... If it's not too late do NOT use the MyBook software to do this as it is problematic... Simply hook it up to a Windows machine and do it from Disk Management... Best of Luck |

| XP and Vista Home | Re: New WD external drive-any problem using on both XP and Vista Home? Oh, thank you! Not too late. I got nervous when I started reading the instructions and decided I better ask about it. If you could help me a few more steps. I thought I knew where to find Disk Management, but realize the only time I have seen it regularly is in Outlook. I know that isn't what you are referring to. When I open My Computer I don't see an option for Disk Management. Will that only appear after I connect the new drive or is just hidden? Sorry, as you can see I'm not in familiar territory with this. Thanks, Patio. |

| Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit / Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit | Re: New WD external drive-any problem using on both XP and Vista Home? Go to your Start Orb and click on it then when the panel opens on the right of the list you'll see Computer, right click on that and on the menu that appears click on Manage when that opens you will see the list for Disk Management. When you are going through these steps you will probably have the dialogue box come up asking if you want want to do the action you just started, just click on continue. Hope that helps you Nadine, if you need anymore help just ask someone will always be here for you. |
