Recent Places - links not working

Something has changed on my system and messed up the Recent Places dialog. It was working fine and very useful.

Now though, for example in these 2 applications, the Recent Places link shows, I click and get a list of folders but when I select one I get an error message box

Expression Web 2
File open, then Recent Places, gives a list of folder but if I select one it tries to open it (as a document?)
eg.
cannot open C:\users\me\Documents\blah\folder.

Word 2007 says
The directory name is not valid.
C:\users\me\Documents\blah\folder\

Office 2007
Attach a file, select recent places. Fine, get a list of recent places. Click on a folder and get a pop up saying:

Cannot find this file. Verify the path and file names are correct.

It's as though vista has forgotten these are folders or something?

any thoughts?

Hi yupus and welcome to Vista Forums

Do the correct files exist in the folders if you manually navigate to them in Explorer?

hi Dwarf. Thanks.

Yes, the files are there and I have to revert to working my way through to the right folder in the old fashioned way.
