| Vista Home Premium 64bit | D: drive recover Question. cleaning and installing OS Hi everyone i'm new to the forum, i have a question and somthing i want done to my Pc. First my Pc is a Gateway GT 5692 vista prem. 64 bit My question is about D: drive. i know d: drive is a recovery image but taht's all i know. does it have OS as well, it's 8 gigs and can it be made to a bootable disk. My pc didn't come with any disks and it came from best buy what ass's you are gateway but i love the pc. The reason i ask is because i want to thoroughly clean my pc and hard drive with the destructive option. to give it that 100% no virus can possibly be on my pc result. i have tried that recovery with disk option before on other pc's and the virus managed to stay some how. My brother taught me that the best way to clean pc's are to, 1. take memory sticks and battery out of pc. 2. turn it on it gives like a flush to the memory stick. 3. put memory and battery back. 4. Turn on put OS (not recovery) disk in and and proceed to install 5. when at hard drive cleaning option choose destructive (yes i know it eliminates the D: drive partition) and proceed for a fresh OS. it does not have any drivers so i download with another pc from the website and done, I have tried this for years now and it works 100%+++++++++ no virus but it does not have that factory feel to it its emty which i love for XP. But i want factory packed for Vista So what i'm trying to do is destructive clean my pc and re-install because i know i have a virus and i can't get it out and i tried lots of anti virus program but alot don't work good for 64 bit even though i have 64 bit versions. please don't give ways to clean the virus. i would like to clean the pc completly. Does D: drive have OS if so can it be put to a bootable disk ? If not can i get a a copy of Vista destructive fresh install OS and some how put a copy of the recovery D: drive that i have now and reboot with all the drivers and factory pack. That would be nice right ![]() i know that gateway sells the disk that can take care of all this but i don't have 80 bucks to give them so i'm working with what i have. thanks in advance for any reply |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit OS / Sp2 | Re: D: drive recover Question. cleaning and installing OS It should be cleaned of virus when you do a system recovery "back to factory cond" No need for "destructive clean" ..... In your case ..It's too late now .... Try to save up $ 80.00 for a new Wds install disc ...."What a rip-off" I know .... Sony only charges for $20.00 by last time I ordered ... |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: D: drive recover Question. cleaning and installing OS my question was never about a recovery disk. my question is. does D: drive have OS in it with the recovery and if it did can it be made into a bootable disk or could i make a copy of the D: drive into a disk . clean my PC with destructive option on my hard drive wipping it clean. and put that partition D: drive recovery back. i don't care for the recovery disk that come with the pc because they only activate D: drive recover. it doesn't have the drivers and stuff in that disk only the restore disk does and it cost 80 buck. thanks for relying theog |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: D: drive recover Question. cleaning and installing OS Hi Ramza The recover DVD you make from the Gateway recovery program, should be the same as the DVD you buy from Gateway. You can always clone the drive with Norton Ghost. If all you would like is the drivers, all drivers are free to download. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: D: drive recover Question. cleaning and installing OS Hey theog thiers two different disks for sale at gateway. the recovery disk only activates the D: drive recovery on your hard drive. the restore disk that they have for sale too has OS and partitions a recovery d: drive plus restore pc back to factory like they sale at store and open for the first time. if i were to destructively clean my pc and use a recovery not a restore disk. it only puts a generic copy of windows with no drivers,no factory pack and its not a offical windows. which i have done with other pc's using the recovery disk. Now the D:drive recovery does make your PC into factory state but does it have OS. As for you saying that i can make a copy of d:drive can it be made into a bootable disk for restoring my PC and have you tried it yourself? |
