Color Scheme Problems

It seems like every time I restart my computer, something isn't right when I restart it. This time, something is wrong with my color scheme. I was having color scheme problems a day ago and was able to fix it by creating glass folders in some file...I checked all that and it was all fine...I don't know how to fix it this time. It looks as if I don't have windows vista basic as a color scheme option anymore...what do I do? All I have is windows standard. It may seem silly but I really like the colors and layout of my old vista...

Hope this image helps. See how the sidebar is weird and all the windows look like an old computer?

Re: Color Scheme Problems

Hello,
Thank you both for the help. I went through the tutorials but they didn't help at all. I also tried enabling the glass transparency but that didn't work either. It seems like my problem is with the color scheme options. I used to be on Windows Vista Basic but that isn't an option anymore. Now I am set on Windows Standard. Any way I can get the Windows Vista Basic back?
My WEI score is 3.7

Thanks for the help! I'm just and student and not very good with computers. The tutorials have been a help before but the ones I have tried for this haven't seemed to work...

Re: Color Scheme Problems

Hello Gubberdoo, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check to make sure that the Services below are set this way, then restart the computer if changed to see if that may help.
  • Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (Default setting: Started and Automatic)
  • Themes (Default setting: Started and Automatic)
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Color Scheme Problems

Shawn,
Thank you very much! That fixed my problem. The themes were manual and stopped. Is there any reason as to why that happens?

Also, is there any way to change the language of my start menu and things like that? I've been in the language section of the control panel and changed everything I could but it didn't seem to work...is there any tutorial that might show me another way?
Thanks again! I really appreciate it!

Re: Color Scheme Problems

You're welcome Gubberdoo.

It could have been from some program or game that stopped the service and failed to restart it.

Since you have Vista Basic, you will not have the option to change the display language in Vista. However, you may be able to use the program Vistalizator to be able to in Vista Basic.

Re: Color Scheme Problems

My toolbar still doesn't look right. It is still the windows standard grey toolbar and it used to be different before...where can I change that?

Re: Color Scheme Problems

Vista Basic will not have the Windows Aero color scheme, but you might check to make sure that you have the Windows Vista Standard color scheme selected. You should also be able to change the color for the 3D Objects item in the Advanced Appearance Settings for the taskbar.
