I'm having a serious problem with my new computer it slows down then locks up. I get a message from windows that the system is low on memory. I've tried evertything ran the HP Pc Doctor diagnostic, ran chkdks Had Norton 2010 to optomize still no joy. I've ran the resorce Manager it show all physical either allocated or in use. In short they all show nothing wrong with the HDD or the memory. I've closed all programs in my start menu and it still occurs

As a followup I found this when using the Task Manager The file is in c:/windows/systems32 6.0.6002.18005. Permission Read&Execute, Read Write. There is also a second services file Microsoft Common Console Document. Details lists as services.msc size 90.5KB Read & Execute Read
At the moment the system shows services.exe as using CPU 16 memory 4,585976K services and Controller. There has to be something wrong here It's just the system controller,:( how can it require that much memory?

Hello Jimmy, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It sounds like you may have turned off the page file, or have it set to too small of a size. Double check using the tutorial below to make sure that you have the virtual page file turned on and set to Automatically manage paging file size for all drives and to be System Managed for the C: drive.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/132201-virtual-memory-paging-file-change.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey Brink thanks for your response.
Total paging file size for all drives
Minimum Allocated: 16 MB
Recommended: 9213 MB
Currently Allocated: 18422MB

Task Manager Shows
CPU Usage : 2% Physical Memory 40%
Physical Memory[MB ]
Total 6142
Cached 3839
Free 37

Kernel Memory [MB ]
Total: 440
Paged:350
Non Paged :89

This is the first time I have seen Physical Memory below 80% in 2 days. To be honest it appears to beworking properly and if so I would never have made the post. I followed the tutorial to the letter. The setting were just as I stated above I did not make any changes but now the system asks that I reboot. I'll reboot check what happens and report back. I just hope it is a bad HDD or the controller on the MB. This system is less than 2 months old.

OK same issue as before. When the system is restarted it proceeds to consume all available memory. This occurs when the computer is completely idle and continues until the low memory notice is displayed by windows. At that point the system locks up. I then reboot the system leave it idle and after about 30 minutes it become available

You may want to run some serious virus scanners. Not too long ago I remember a virus from China that was filling up the memory with junk. It was otherwise begnin, but it kept eating the RAM.
I also recommend to run Process Explorer ( Download Process Explorer 11.33 - FileHippo.com ) to check whether there are any strange processes running.

Hey guys
Everything went OK I'm back up and running I just have to reinstall Shredder and Mindfield. It was not fun but what a great experience however once is enough. Again thanks for all the help, one of the utilities suggested is 'just sick 'as my son would say, what a great program. In the end it was stuff in was the reg caused but some uninstalled Security Suites conflicts. Once burnt is twice warned all of the 64 bit FW Suite are not ready for prime time. Again you guys are great have some more quest later of course
