Activation/Deactivation Question

My friend's computer is originally pre-installed with Windows XP with the COA on the CPU.
Then they upgraded the OS to Windows Vista Home Basic by purchasing the full upgrade of Windows Vista Home Basic with a new COA.
Now, the computer loads very slow and they want it back to XP.

My question is,
If ever I uninstall Vista on that computer, and re-install Windows XP can I use the old COA of the computer on that PC?;and
Will I be able to use the Vista COA on another PC?

COA = the sticker that comes with the disc or machine :p

as far as i can tell, they should both be reusable .... as long as your only running the one instance of each.

you paid for both, im sure Retail installs are unlimited one 1 machine..??

You cannot just "uninstall" the OS. You will need to obtain the original XP media, delete and add a single partition (recommend), reformat (recommend) and install the older operating system.

Thanks for the reply guys.
One more thing, how to uninstall windows vista home basic?

you'll have to format the OS partition......

upon boot up enter the BIOS & change your ''boot priority'' to fire up the optical drive first.

enter XP disc & reboot.

upon boot up select, boot from disc.

from this point you'll be given your format & install options, select the existing partition & overwrite.

that's it....:)

Thanks, I thought it would be different since I'm downgrading my OS.

Another situation:
They reformatted their other PC by not using any boot/recovery disks.
Therefore the pre-installed softwares were removed from the system, including HP Total Care Advisor which seems to be the one that creates a boot/recovery disk.

How can I make a boot disk now? and will I be able to recover or have the pre-installed items if I ever did make a boot disk?
