How can i put vista on a laptop with an unworking copy of xp?

hi my laptop crashen about a week ago and ive decided to do a recovery with the disks i made(3 disks). the current os is xp and only one of the disks would get copied. so ive decided just to put vista on the laptop, and i dont know how.
Plz reply Asap.
also windows is not available, so i can only use recovery and things lie that. the laptop is hp and i have two vista disks.

Stic the Operating System disc into your cd drive when the pc boots, then reboot and follow the instructions. Choose a clean install that will wipe everything.
