Vista locks instead of sleeping

When trying to enter sleep mode vista locks the computer and goes to the welcome screen. Event views shows "preparing for Away mode"

I have had this problem once before so I restored the computer and it fixed it. But at this point I simply want to know what is causing it to happen. Bios is configured. Hibernation is off. no scheduled tasks. Bios is properly configured.

If anyone can help let me know.

Thanks
Mike

If you're pressing the sleep button, go to advanced power options, and see what it says under "Sleep button action".

If this doesn't help, press Win+R, type cmd and press enter. There, type powercfg -a. What does it say?

I have it set to S3 hybrid sleep. I have also tried it in S1. These are the only two offered in my bios. The button is set to sleep. I even tried the sleep command from cmd. it simply turns off my screen. Then if I move my mouse it comes up with the welcome screen.

Thanks for your help

Mike

Hey thanks friend. It worked like a charm. Away mode is not necessary.
