Clear Type issues

I have a Dell 2209WA monitor , this is my first lcd (im a gamer and very particular about image quality nothing matches a good old CRT ;) )

Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Anyhoo ive noticed something very annoying , bold type seems to be blurry around the edges and have a very slight red tinge to it

After some research ive put it down to the alaising that clear type adds to text (if i turn clear type off all is well but text looks awfull with cleartype off)

Ive used the XP cleartype powertoy to tweak it a little (yes it works fine on Vista even though it says it wont) and i have got normal text looking better but not ideal i still have the issue with bold text

I have looked at other monitors (friends family etc) and the issue doesnt seem quite as pronounced however they are using low quality displays that dont do anything justice let alone text , they are blurry anyway and i think thats reducing the problem

Its really starting to annoy me so has anyone else had this problem? and solved it?

My monitor is calibrated and the correct colour profile is loaded and selected (just incase you need to know that)

If anyone can solve this issue (im assuming its not solvable) I will come to yours and make you a lovely cup of tea and bring you the biscuits of your choice (half price)

Did you use the .inf file that came with the monitor?
Are you using the highest resolution?
Highest refresh rate?
Factory reset the monitor.
By biscuits I'm sure you mean cookies. My wife and son had a great time in England this past summer!

ini file the same , modified colour profile , but its the same with the default Dell profile

Yes monitors default res 1680x1050 and refresh rate 75hz , its the same at the monitors default 60hz though

Factory reset yes , same issue

Im not sure if its "just me" this monitor is absolutely huge i dont seem to ba able to get far enough away from it lol

its definately a cleartype issue as its not there when clear type is off

yes cookies , but the proper name for them is biscuits ;)

I got the latest drivers mate thanks :) , im thinking its not a driver or colour profile issue but a clear type issue , ive tried all the drivers and all the standard colour profile from dell.........no dice

Its difficult to describe the problem and obviously a screenshot wont work :p

Games and movies look fantastic its just text

yeah i saw that a few days ago :) , its not the same issue as im having though the text on my monitor is pin sharp , others have said the same about that paticular 24" Dell , i think that issue is specific to that monitor and due to the pixel pitch it uses

You know... it would be interesting to hook the monitor up to another pc and see what you can see. Other than that possibility, I'm out of bad ideas :(
