BIOS Checksum Error?

I was just working on my homework on my computer and suddenly my computer screen turned black and I got a "BIOS Checksum Error." My computer kept beeping and I just hit the power button to reboot my PC. After that, my computer booted fine. This is the first time I ever seen a "bios checksum error".
At that time, a faulty DVD drive (IDE) was still connected to my computer and I immediately took it out and replaced it with another DVD burner, thinking that the DVD drive might be the reason why i got the bios checksum error.

I just want to know what the bios checksum error was about because I have no idea if the faulty DVD drive might of been the culprit of the checksum error. I googled my problem and I can't find anything because it seems like most bios checksum errors are related to problems with flashing BIOS (which i never did for months).

The checksum insures the rom is correct. A checksum error MAY indicate a faulty bios or other hardware on the mobo. The only thing I would do is make sure I keep a good backup of my data. Hardware problems seldom get better.

The problem doesn't seem to persist anymore. As long as I don't get the message ever again, it's OK right?

If you don't get the message again, you should be fine. But back up, back up, back up your data. Always a good insurance policy.

Replace the small battery as a precaution. A checksom error is evidence of corruption as has been said. The bios is actually an eeprom chip which can be corrupted by power changes and also some forms of virus.
Check the date and time on the bios screen, has your time and date been wrong lately:
