Auto Defrag

Hi,

I am using Smart Defrag 1.20
The thing I would like to know is

1. Is it worth having your hard drive auto defragged?, or,
2. To manually defrag the hard drive, once a week?

As I think that running the auto defrag is using a bit to much
in resources?
around 9,000k

Has anybody got any suggestions?
Thanks
Rip

Hi Rip,
You are right about auto defrag, you don't need that and defragging is dependent on how one uses their PCs. I normally do manual defrag once a month and quite pleased with it.

Depends.

I use Diskeeper. I do an analyze once a week. And defrag if the software says it is needed. If I work on my web sites, editing lots of files before I upload them, or play lots of Everquest, it is possible i need to defrag twice a week.

Diskeeper has 'check and maybe defrag upon bootup' but I don't use it.
