Vista Ultimate has no logon box

After an aborted web install of software I reboot only to have the Vista background appear but no logon name or password box. It just sits there. Hard drive shows activity but no other change. Let it sit for 2 hours and still no change.
I tried bootrec /rebuildbcd as well as renamed the bcd. Still no help. Is there a way to correct this problem. The drive is still accessable as a slave and I can coopy files from it. Suggestions would be great.

Hello rls2009pa, and welcome to Vista Forums.

In addition, you might also see if doing a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before this failed install to see if it may be able to fix it for you.

Tried both and no success!!
I think this goes beyond the obvious. Replace the registry from a backup?
Suggestions please.

At this point I agree with the others that formatting and doing a clean install of Vista would be best. :(
