I just bought a HP Pavillion laptop a few weeks ago and everything was working fine. But the only problem is, MSN messenger keeps on going: Windows Live messenger has stopped working every time I open it. But I just ignored it. The next day, I couldn't download anything from my computer. It will just pop up and ask me where to save it then after that, it dissapears and my downloads are no where. Then I fixed it by installing IE 8 (I'm not sure how I could've install that...). Now my IE stops working almost everytime. I can only open the one that says: Internet Explorer (64-bit). Can anyone tell me what's the problem with my computer and how to fix it?

First thing first

You need to fill in your system specs (lower left corner) so that we know what hardware you have.

are you 32bit? do you have a backup to restore?

As Ken said, please provide detailed information.

Have you run a virus scan?
Did you scan for malware?

Hmm.. Not sure of the virus. Norton AntiVirus said: Tracking Cookie
It was rated as Low. How do I do a malware scan? I use Norton AntiVirus and it just says Scan Now. I;m on a different computer right now because the vista's internet is too much trouble.

Hi Mark. Actually, I do run both Spybot and Malwarebytes. I used to be a big fan of Ad-aware, but I lost the love when they revamped their utility.

You don't speed spybot and it will conflict with Norton. Just use Malwarebytes as an on demand scanner. Nothing is wrong with tracking cookies either. Can you start IE8, the other one, not the 64-bit one with the option no addon's?

You could check what Add-Ons you have got enabled by going to Tools-> Manage Add-Ons. Disable them one by one and see whether that helps.
