Hi all, I am new to this forum. I goggled my error message but the thread was too old to update it. So here it is: When I insert a CD/DVD, I get the following error:

E:\

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.

I have since pre-associated all files and functions and still I receive this error. Can anyone assist?

Regards,

Jacob

Hi and welcome to vistaX64

I would suspect that it is a simple driver update that is needed. You can check by going into the device manager (type device manager in search) look for your dvd drive and see if it is installed under disk drives. It should be there and not have a yellow triangle on it. If it isnt there or has a triangle on it you just have to find out what kind of drive it is and go to your computer makers site get the driver and install it. If there are no dvd drivers listed it may be in with utilities, etc

Hope this helps

Ken

Thank you very much Ken.

It seems my CD-rom/DVD drive is not under disk drives but in it's own section. DVDs now play fine, but random audio disks do not. I scoured the hp and the net for audio drives and failed to find what I am looking for. It seems none my media players are functioning properly and all media players take up 90% of my CPU. I cannot figure what's going on there. Any advice?

Thanks again,

Jacob

Jacob,
Please install this codec and let us know if it helps.
Download K-Lite Codec Pack
Download the standard and, when installing, uncheck the media player.

BTW, can you give us the make and model (be specific) of your DVD drive?

we are somewhat hampered in helping because we dont know what kind of hardware you have. Could you go into sysetem specs (lower left corner of your posts) and fill them in so we can go looking for an audio driver

thanks

Thanks Ken for the heads up. I did try to complete the system data the best could spending some time in Device Manager. Looking in there, I cannot get over the fact that many devices are listed more than once.

I tried the codec link but the site was suspended. Before I had nothing but trouble with 3-1 codec downloads so I just use WMP and GOM Player.

I've tried my best to patch the problems on HP's driver page, but still insufficient (even tried their online cs, which was of no help).

Thanks for your help and let me know if any more data is required.
