Problem With Boot Sequence in Vista x64

Hi everybody, I am new here (so please be kind !). I have average computer experience.
I have a new PC in which I installed Vista Ultimate x64 OS...everything is OK with that OS apart from one thing, ME...I do not like Vista Ultimate at all. I now have a XP Pro x64 CD which I would like to install and use as my ONLY OS. Trouble is that I cannot get the disc to boot. I have tried (in vain) to change my boot sequence in Vista Ultimate x64 and, no matter what I do I cannot get the CD/DVD drive as my 1st boot. If I use f2 (set-up) I cannot even move CD/DVD drive from it's bottom position in the boot sequence list and when I go to f11 to select and enter boot device my optical drive is listed but if I select that my PC seems to ignore this and boots from hdd giving me Vista Ultimate again. I have been with this problem for a couple of weeks now and I decided that it was time to turn to the experts for advice :-)

Thanks in advance...

Hello shaps,
To change the boot order you need to go in to the Bios.
Press Del on boot up to enter the Bios, go to boot/ boot order and change 1st boot device to your CD/DVD drive, save the settings, reboot and away you go. (Don't forget to change it back afterwards).
Can i ask, what is it you don't like about Vista ?.
Hope this helps post your results, thanks.

Hi shaps

1) Will your Vista DVD boot in your new PC?

2)Do you have a spare DVD drive? if yes, try that out.

3) Do you have your old PC? If yes,try your XP disk in that.

Hi again, Many thanks to you both for your swift responses to my issue :D I had tried all the scenarios given with no luck ...but guess what ? I had a brainwave and I have solved my own problem  From the initial install of Vista Ultimate x64 I remembered that I had used a different keyboard and mouse on my XP Pro x64 attempt. I had used a wired mouse/keyboard to install Vista but I had changed to a wireless keyboard and mouse on my attempts at an XP installation...I have since realized that a WIRELESS KEYBOARD is useless in BIOS, so I changed back to a wired keyboard and "HEY PRESTO" everything worked fine in BIOS. Now my XP Pro x64 is installing. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE REPLIES FELLAS. The reason that I gave up on Vista so quickly is twofold.
1) I am totally at home with the XP OS.
2) Those multiple, annoying, obtrusive and time consuming "continue" requests in Vista. (Time is tight in my life).
I THINK THAT I GAINED INSPIRATION BY POSTING MY FIRST CRY FOR HELP HERE !
LOVE...

I'd be interested to know what you find in XP Pro X64 that you don't find in Vista 64.

It's possibly a personal thing, but I am comfortable with everything that is XP.
