Dialog boxes won't dissapear upon completion of action

I hope someone will be able to help me with this....When moving an item to the recycle bin , the associated dialog message containing the status progress bar, will not dissapear, though the action does work.
This happens as well when moving a file from my laptop to an external hard drive, and the external also freezes up. I have to reboot to get the dialog boxes to leave.

With no replys and many views, I fear this must be a major problem.

Is it time to take laptop to the repair shop?

Everything else seems to be going okay, but this problem is annoying and my task bar at the bottom of the screen becomes cluttered pretty quickly since all file moving mesages and all delete messages (dialog boxes) remain and only dissapear on reboot.

I'l hold off a with costly repair a while longer hoping that someone on this site might come up with a solution.
