Process Taking Up Memory

Ok, a few days ago I was playing Conquer Online and it just randomly started freezing. It would freeze for a second, then play normally for a second, and then repeat until I closed it. Now, I looked into what was causing the problem and form what I found, I went to the Task Manager and looked at the process tab to see the memory usage.

Here is what I came across:

Memory-1.jpg

Processes.jpg

Whenever I close one process, the memory taken from that process gets filled by another. It is like it is staying at the top of my memory preventing me from doing anything. Anyideas on what could be wrong?

Firefox is suxking up your memory, which is normal, IE8 does that too. Can you download Process Explorer and see what svchost processes take up a lot of RAM?

Open up Process Explorer then click on the Working Set tab to sort by memeory usage. Hover your mouse over the svchost service using the most memory and identify what's running in it.

If you don't have the column, right click the column bar, select add column, then in the Process Memory Tab, tick working set and press OK.

It has a long list of things when I hover over it on the left side, so I don't exactly know what I am looking for, sorry.

Vyxx,
If you would please fill out your system specs (lower left corner). How much memory do you have?
Have you installed the latest patch for the game?
Downloads - Patch - Conquer Online - Official Site

Done to the best of my ability. And I had it fully upgraded but I restored my computer using the partition because someone form HP support told me to as an attempt to fix the problem, so it got erased(along with all my pictures and files) and the problem is still here.

Process explorer will show 'parent' and 'sibling' processes. Frostmourne was asking you to look at the 'svchost' processes to see which process was taking up the memory. I would close Firefox when playing the game, or close everything but the game when your playing.

However, process monitor does not install. You simply run it as a program. I'm pretty sure its downloaded in a .zip folder, extract it where ever is the easiest to get to it, then just run it.

I put it on the desktop last night, and the Firefox uses a lot, but that isn't the issue I am having.

All of the other programs running so much memory adds up is taking up a lot. They weren't using near that much a few days ago and all I can think of it some kind of hardware failure. I am going to check back here once more after school and see if there are any replies that could fix it, if not I am taking it back to best buy and having them take a look at it and possibly get a new one.

Have just started a trial of opera 10 on my machine as i found FF 3.52 taking 500MB of ram - It had been running all day but that is unacceptable. am missing a few of the addons from ff but overall am quite impressed with Opera (currently taking 73MB)

You might want to look into blocking some startup process's so your not using as much memory... Can you post a picture using the snipping tool of your msconfig?

msconfig:[start search > type msconfig > hit enter > accept UAC > click on the 'Start up' Tab > then take a screen shot with snipping tool > post it here]

snipping tool: [start search > snipping tool > hit enter > take a screen shot > save to the desktop / where ever is easy > upload it here.]

everything there looks normal , firefox definately has a plugin/process thats leaking memory try it in safe mode

your issue is simple mate you have way WAY too much stuff running in the background

I can see at lwast 14 processes there you can disable with no detrimental effect on the running of your system
