hangs at start

last night i nearly cracked it with my computer because i did a CHKDSK and when that finishes and my computer restarts... when it just about to load the logon screen it is dark for at least up to a minute.

the last time i did that i wouldn't boot into windows at all. and had to pay 60.00 for it to get looked at.

try booting in safe mode (hit F8 repeatedly) if that works it may be as simple as a video driver.

well the bad thing is i dont have a sp/2 keybord

Wait your keyboard has to work before boot or you couldnt get into BIOS. Try putting the vista dvd in the tray and reboot. It may get far enough to have the keyboard activate.

USB should be recognized. Try F8. Also, what did chkdsk find? If you can load Safe Mode, go into Problems Reports and Solutions. It might be listed as well as in Event Viewer in the system log.
