It's been a while but here goes.

I saved and have been using, a neat image (safe) and now want to change my theme. Is there any way I can save this so I can go back and use it if I change to something else then decide I want back?

I think you would be able to do it by locating the file, right click and hit open with, and saving it with paint or something. Open personalization, and then desktop background, and right click the wallpaper and open it with paint; then save it.

Then you would have the file, so you would always be able to set it as the background again. I think you could put it in the Wallpaper folder in:

C:/WINDOWS/Web/Wallpaper

and have the option to set it there. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

I got it now.

Type AppData into your search bar. Then open the Roaming folder. Then open your browser folder, and the file should be in there.

Well... you could search your drive for all *.jpg files.

I can't find a 'browser folder' but I think I found the file. However nothing will open it!

*jpg search turns up nothing.

Default location only shows Windows Desktops.

Thanks everyone for responding, but as you can see I'm still in the dark. Help:)

Good job. And I learned of another location for wallpaper. Out of curiosity, what was the extension for your file?

By "browser" folder I meant the internet browser you use. So if you use Mozilla Firefox, it would be a Mozilla folder, and then the file would be inside the Firefox folder.
