Installing Recovery Disc

Hi there,

I have Vista in my own computer, and my mother does also, however to make a long story short, we need to use the recovery discs that were created through Windows to reinstall Vista into her computer if need be, and that time HAS come to do so. I have never done this procedure before, so I just wanted to see if I could get some help through this forum.

There are two DVD recovery discs that are ready to be installed, so can somebody give me a step by step procedure of installing them? I understand that when the computer is booting up that an "F" command key will need to be tapped to get into the proper screen to do so, but I'm not sure which one. Please let me know which "F" command key to use, and the steps from there on. I really appreciate any help on this. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for these instructions. Just to make sure, in step 6 of Method Two, I would select the Complete PC Restore option, correct? Since there are TWO Recovery DVD discs that were created, I assume that during the process that it will open the disc drive and ask to replace Disc 1 with Disc 2, correct?

And in the instructions for Complete PC Restore says:

3. If you saved the backup image on a set of multiple DVDs, then insert the last DVD from the backup set when prompted.

Since there is Recovery Disc #1 and Recovery Disc #2, does this mean that you must put in Disc #2 before Disc #1? Thanks again.

Hello Fullgrownnut,

I believe you are referring to doing a factory restore using your OEM recovery discs instead. If this is the case, then the above suggestion by lemur will not work for this. Please post back with what brand your computer is, and I'll post back instructions from your computer manufacturer's website on how to do a factory restore. :)

Hi Brink!

Well, I'm looking to restore Windows Vista using the recovery discs that you are able to create yourself using the utility to do it through Windows. It created two recovery DVD discs (#1 & #2), now all I need to do is use them to restore the operationg system. The bottom line is that the operating system needs to be wiped out and restored back from scratch again. The manufacturer of my mother's computer is eMachine. Thanks SO much for your input and help!

I could not find anything clear at eMachine, but:

For the eMachine, you should be able to boot from the OEM disc 1 at boot after pressing the "press any key to boot from CD" to start the OEM factory recovery. You may also be able to press F11 (it will tell you what to what F key to press for recovery at start up briefly as well) during startup to do the factory recovery from the recovery partition.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
