Destination Folder Access Denied-Moving Files

Hello all,

I have a brand new Toshiba E105 Satellite with Windows 64 Home ed. My old satellite has XP. I have a Maxtor external drive that I use to backup data. I tried to copy my backup file to my new computer from the Maxtor and was mostly successful. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of photos that I could not transfer. They are just like the other photos that did transfer but for whatever reason, these won't. I get the famous "Destination folder Access Denied-you need permission to perform this action" message.

I have been perusing the forums and have tried disabling UAC, adding admin privileges and permissions to both the new computer and the maxtor all to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is a permissions problem. If you go to the folder that contains the photos and add your user to the owners group with modify permissions you should be able to copy/move them. If not right click one of the files and see who the onwer is

thanks

hi Ken,

I added myself to the maxtor and the folder itself with full permission, and then tried doing with same with the sharing options but still no go. When I looked up the owner of one of the files, all I see is a long string of numbers and letters. I don't know how to change the owner for a file and there are 376 files in the group I am trying to move. Any more ideas? I appreciate the input.
