Won't Turn On Past Power Save Mode

Hi there, I have a Windows Vista Home edition and for the past two or three days now, it hasn't been turning on past a black screen saying it's in Power Save mode and to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse. Well, do either or wouldn't work,so I figured there would be something wrong with the keyboard and/or mouse. So I bought a new one of each and it turned on after connecting the new keyboard. Then I turned it off for the night and in the morning, it wouldn't work again. (ps, I tried unplugging, etc, the whole she-bang). So now I'm sad. I.T.'s told me there's something wrong with it, well, no kidding, right. But, I have all my school work and a million pictures that I haven't backed up, and I don't wanna lose them.

So, I guess my question is, is there any suspicions as to what could be the problem? Also, I was told that I wouldn't entirely have to lose my pictures and stuff if I just remove that drive and put it in a new system thingamagig. Sorry, not good with computers. But yeah. Help? :sarc:
