organizing photos

Can anyone help?? I'm trying to organize my pictures and I've made things worse in the process. I know it must be something really simple but I'm clueless to it.
When I uploaded my pics from my camera they went into separate files (each day different file). I just want to put them all in 1 file, eg Summer holiday in 1, Xmas in another.In the process of trying to do this, I've ended up dragging files into files.
If anyone can help me sort this mess out, please go easy on me. My knowledge of computers is, to say the least, slim. Thanks...

so you are dragging and dropping them right? and you want to have not dated folders but holiday/trip folders.

Are you looking for another way (other than dragging and dropping) of moving them?

hey, I don't mind how I get it done I just wanna get it done. So I end up with a number of folders for seperate occasions. Like Summer 08 Summer 09 and so on. Thanks
