Hello. Vista crashed and I restarted and it would not boot so I inserted my recovery disk. It did a starup recovery but 1/2 way through it was interupted by a blackout (their is work going on around my house). I tired to do a fresh install of vista and it freezes. Now when I try to open up windows it seems like it wil boot but after the bootsplah all i get a a black screen. Please help. Thanks! :D

my thoughts are that you have gone to a malicious software site without knowing. i f windows or ubuntu can't boot, a virus might have messed you up big time.
do you still have warranty?
if you do, take it back and replace/get a refund.

if it wasn't a virus, look for a vista guru's help or someone with similar expertise.
this is not my area of knowledge.

hope you fix this problem.

Ken: Bios is set up right.

Lil: I thought so :( Warenty is dead unless I pay 1000 $'s for 5 years or else they just say "buy this buys that". It probably is a virus. Hope a guru can help :)

Irunongames,
Does the DVD player respond when you try to start? Will you get a new bootable disk from Gateway? Do you have a hardware diagnostics disk for your PC, including hard disk diagnostics?

I have been running the startup repair for 3 hours and it is still going. Is it working? It says it might take over a hour but I am worried it is doing nothing.

the fact that you lost power makes me worried. I assume that the computer was not plugged into a surge protector, right?

I dont know. we have tried all the obvious things. we need to get the computer to at least boot into bios so we can look at the settings. when you boot the computer does it beep normally or is it different? do you have a usb drive to put a win 7 on? if you do we can try to boot from that

insert a disc with win7 on it.

go to boot setup, and change the boot from hard disk to dvd tray. i'm not sure how the layout of the bios is, but it should be the first 'tab' that shows up. use the arrow keys to change the order.

lol just playing my little part.

First you are lucky. I was thinking maybe the power fried something in the computer but since you can get into bios it means that the computer is OK.

Basically there are a few things to look at. if you have max memory, max cpu, or legacy floppy support they should be unchecked.

I assume you aren't overcloking, and dont have a RAID. You should unplug anything that isn't essential the only things left should be monitor, keyboard and mouse. unplug and external usb, HD, etc. If you have alot of ram (4 gigs or more) take out all but abt 2 gigs of ram.

after all these are done reboot with the dvd in and see if you can get to a safe boot.

thanks

Ok. I am in safe mode, but it has paused at drivers/crcdisk.sys Any suggestions?

Edit: I tried doing safe mode again and when it get's to drivers/crcdisk.sys it sounds like it shuts off then goes back on.
