Vista Folder views cause indigestion

After reading this thread:
http://www.vistax64.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=712222

I had to carry the torch to a firm realization.

I consider myself a sane individual. I think my family and friends do as well.
I noticed this issue from nearly the first day of using Vista and thought, strange but maybe it's *smart*.
Then I noticed, if I was playing a video, or burning a cd, or listening to a wav/mp3 etc, then Vista would refuse to delete the file if I so chose. (Especially on DVD content).
Then I noticed how gee, its not so smart, it keeps chaging my views. Views I customized.

So google, I went, and learned that gee..... no one really talked about this issue much. And tried all of the suggestions I found. The result, No permanent fix. My computer is used by my whole family and I do a lot of editing, coding, etc....

Microsoft abandoned Millenium as fast as they could and ran even faster from the disaster it became. But, in all honesty, at least it was a OS which did as expected (provided you changed NOTHING). Vista on the other hand changes itself; And Microsoft abandoned it while merrily trying to upsell Windows 7.

Excuse me Microshaft, you just burned millions of customers with what you yourself by your own actions have proven is gigo. They paid (directly and indirectly) for this garbage, and now you want them to welcome "7", the borg?

I will not be assimilated.

The "feature" you tried to cram me into accepting 'you know what I want better than I'... my folder view issues alone have left me infuriated beyond words. Sucidal tendencies have overcome me with rage and hatred for what you did. If I ever were to leave this world early, or die of a massive heartattack, I would blame you for the added stress you passed into my life.

This is the first and only flame message I have ever written about Microsoft Software, and I promise, it will be the last. I have loved Linux- aloof its user-esque management & configuration intricacies, I love that in the end I can relax with what I have accomplished. Not what was forced upon me.

Please, save yourself, read a book, a nice linux book.. rtfm, enjoy, learn, understand, and watch microsofts stock plummet. You abandoned your users, now we should abandon you.

Vista is the epiphany of fail/phail/noop/foobar you get the idea. It truly is.

Yes I have. And I admit, for the most part, it works. BUT... and there is always a butt...

Upon service packs, and updates, creation of new folders.. not sure what... It seems to restore itself to its "I know better than you" behavior of doing what it wants to do with my views.

So it leaves me begging the question... It was not microsoft who "solved" this bug, and yes, it is a bug. So, where is the patch from microsoft? They are too busy paying a 5 year old to front their next "I know what I want, I know what you need" product.

What good is [strikethrough]windows update[/strikethrough] if they (Microsoft) don't support the needs of their users?

I would like to say thank you for this forum, and http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html Step 2 for giving me at least ONE minor reason to sleep well.

Hello Mellojello, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Have you already tried the download in METHOD TWO in the tutorial below? It may be able to help with the folder view issue.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yeah, while an exact cause of folder views remembering issues not working properly has not been found yet, some updates can cause the patch in the tutorial to no longer help. It will then need to be reapplied. :(

Hi mellojello. I certainly hope your 'flame message' WON'T be your last!!! Not only did you verbalize what I've been thinking/feeling/reacting to in regard to Microsoft's policies, but you did it in a way that I could just sit back and read and... smile. :) Thanks, and I look forward (I hope) to many more candid opinions from you!
