Problems burning photos

Hey,
I'm looking for a bit of help here with burning photos onto discs. When I try to do this it says it is going to take around 7 hours and nothing else happens..I know it shouldn't be doing this and that I am doing everything correctly as it used to work fine. However I recently had to reinstall vista on my laptop and don't know if this has caused a change which will prevent photos burning now! I am using CD-R discs and my drive is compatible with DVD discs and CD-R and CD-RW so I'm not going wrong here! All the discs I am using are new and therefore blank.
Any help on this would be much appreciated! Also I'm not a computer whizz in the slightest so any explanations have to be fairly simple!
Thanks.

The thing is though, I know this can be fixed as it happened when I first got my laptop. I phoned up the guys at dell and he took over the laptop and changed a setting. Now I don't have a clue what setting he changed, and since my warranty has expired it now costs loads to get help from them, so was wondering if anyone on here would know??

Here's a little 'off topic' advice for the future: Any time someone helps you and/or changes any of your computer's settings, watch what they do and write it down --- because just as in this situation, you may want to repeat the action, or, you may want to undo their change and revert the computer back to the way it was.
