Solved Speaker Humming with USB Mouse.

My speaker starts humming when i plug the mouse into the front panel USB port.

I have 2 front panel USB.
The humming more prominent with the mouse plugged to one of them.

There is no humming when connected to back ports.
There is no humming when a pen drive is connected to either of the front ports!

I tried another mouse on the front and that causes humming too.

The front panel is a single PCB with 2 USB and the headphone and mic jacks (AC97).

My speakers are connected on the rear.

Probably some irreparable problem on the front panel PCB, but if someone has experienced a similar problem and solved it please help.

back USB ports are grounded to the mobo, front aren't. fronts are connected by cable.

Do the headphones hum? when you record with the mic and play it back does that have a hum?

The headphones don't hum. Havn't tried the recording yet.

I think i have a correction to the previous post. Only one of the ports cause humming. I don't understand why only mice cause it! Pen drive works fine.

if only one of them does this then i can only imagine that its a badly designed or badly soldered connection thus causing interference, the only way you will tell is if you pull it to bits and in which case its more hassle than its worth, i would suggest you just don't use that port

But then i could be wrong:confused:

Why do speakers hum with usb mouse? B/c they don't know the words...

Okay, I know this won't make a difference, but what happens when you turn your monitor off?

It really does sound like a shielding issue or a grounding issue with the USBs.

Turning off the monitor makes no difference. I tried the port with an external HDD too. No humming. Why only mice? How come the shileding problem comes only with the mouse? Any way i dont think theres anything i can do about it. But im curious.

"This occurs with many systems, particularly those with on board sound, in my experience, and can be anything from a steady hum, to one that coincides with harddrive access, or mouse movement as yours does. Basically, it's just the sound circuitry picking up noise generated by the rest of thehttp://www.velocityreviews.com/foru...heard-from-speakers-with-mouse-movement.html#. Sometimes it helps to mute the CD audio channel, as sometimes the internal analog cable is the culprit. Try that. Otherwise, try reorienting your cables behind the computer, and also inside. It's doubtful that it will help, but worth a try. You will likely just have to live with it, or try a discreet sound card which may improve the situation."

If you have onboard audio, disable it and get a proper sound card.

If you have the speaker jacks on the panel with the USB jacks connected, disconnect them. Or connect the mouse at the back of the computer and only use the front-panel USB ports for memory keys and such.

One thing that might work is to use a mouse with a magnetic field retainer like this:

http://www.sino-buy.com/pic/cable1.jpg

a lot of high-end mice, especially from Logitech, come with these.

You can also do this with your internal connectors:

http://forum.coolermaster.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10976http://forum.coolermaster.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10976

This will dampen the interference internally, you can do it at the motherboard connectors or at the front panel, or both.

SOLVED

I muted CD audio, Line In, Stereo Mixer, etc.... all those things i do not use. The humming is no longer present although im not sure which one did it.

NOTE for others who may have the problem:

I do not have an internal CD audio cable connected.

The things i muted were: CD Audio, Microphone, FrontMic, Line In, in Playback and
CD Audio, Microphone, FrontMic, Line In, Stereo Mix in Recording.

Any one, a few or all of these may have solved the problem.

Thank you all.

Most of those things are Disabled by Default in vista so shouldn't be much of a problem for many but very hand info for those that do.... thank you for coming back and giving the solution for others :D
