Can't move files now that I have Vista

It used to be when I wanted to move a folder in Win XP I'd "cut" the file, click the new location, and "paste". The folder would move to the new place and leave nothing behind.

I now have a new Vista computer. I do the same thing and it copies the falls, but it leaves some or all of the old copies behind.

How do I do a "move" not a "copy" ?

With MS, there are many ways to skin a cat. To solve your problem, you could also just create a new folder wherever you want it, copy the files from the old folder, paste those files into the new folder, and then delete the old folder.

Thanks for replies!

I can copy the files. It's just really annoying that it doesn't automatically delete the old files.

I tried that link with the registry change. It did work -adding a "Move To" to my right click. But that Move To does the same thing as the cut-open-paste way I was doing it.

Half of the old directory tree (with those folder's files) are left behind, but sometimes it does delete things. One trend I see is that the "Read Only" status keeps getting turned on. I turn it off. I try again, and it's back on again. I went into Windows and make sure users were allowed to modify folder contents on that drive, so I don't know why else it's randomly locking some files with Read Only flags. ???

I know, MS Office 2007 occasionally, randomly, turns on my Read Only restriction also, even on my personal files. It makes me furious, especially when the only way I can turn it off is to completely shut down and reboot. And even then sometimes it's still there, and I have to try to create a new, renamed file with the old Read Only file contents. I have learned a valuable lesson though --- I have a few very important, very lengthy files that are crucial to my work. I ALWAYS have an up-to-date copy of these files just in the event that Office doesn't let me access them.

Check in the tutorials for 'Take Ownership' and do that. I had to do that with my old XP hard drive in an external USB case so I could copy all files over to my Vista computer.
