Search Indexer Scheduling because it hogs CPU

I have a coworker who is having the infamous issue with Search Indexer using 100% CPU. He can kill it and things are okay again, but he would like to have it index his drive. Is there a way to schedule search indexer to run and then stop? I did a quick search of the internet and these forums, but couldn't find anything. I found a lot about just completely turning it off, but that's not what I would like to do.

Thanks for your help and sorry if somewhere it has been asked before and I overlooked it.

Why not just run it overnight. Once the index is buil the first time it shouldnt take that long there after

Ken,

Thank you for the reply. The issue is that searchindexer if left on to scan everything, will always peg the CPU to 100%. Right now the user has it just indexing Outlook and a few other things, which doesn't help for his local files. He tried letting it search everything for over 8 hours but when he came back it was still using 100% CPU. So it's not like it only happens when searchindexer is indexing, it's all the time.

Again, thank you for the reply!

there is a way to lower that. In task manager you have the ability to lower the process priority. Not permanantly.

As was suggested, open up index options and choose the option to rebuild the index. Reboot and wait, or use diffrent tools such as Copernic Desktop Search and kill indexer via services.msc
