So I re-installed my Windows Vista..

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista home premium - 32 bits

When I got it, it didn't take me long to connect to the internet but this time when I re-installed it with the DVD that came with the laptop I couldn't

Not that only, there's something that I can't recognize with the computer like for example I can't get to graphic properties by right-clicking the desktop so I assume that the DVD changes some parts

Now the problem: basically it say "Windows cannot find any networks" which is opposite of when I got it and it found my network plus others quickly. My network is wireless by the way

I tried to allow and enable everything on the firewall settings, haven't got to shutting it off yet

Oh and I'm on the internet on my old computer so it's not a router problem

Hello Noob21, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Some OEM recovery discs have two sets. One the "Vista recovery" disc, and the other a "Applications & Drivers" disc. Did you also use the second one if available?

You might also try doing the factory recovery from your hard drive instead to see if that works better for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

1 - I re-installed it because my Vista went crazy for a couple of weeks, so I formatted my hard-drive before re-installing

2 - I have no idea what's in my recovery drive, since I didn't use it before Vista went crazy but it's 75% full (some of that music files I tried to backup before the computer crashes) but I've just started restoring some of the files I backed and they're all audio files

3 - I have some other DVDs but they don't really seem important, there's Roxio, Dell inspiron and Dell Studio re-installation DVD, Works and webcam manager

4- There's no light on the wireless signal on my laptop so I suppose that's another problem

Oh and by the way what's the difference between re-installing Vista and this "Restore the computer's software to original condition." (from the dell link)

It sounds like you need to install the drivers for these devices on your computer. Here is the driver download page at Dell for your computer.

Drivers & Downloads

A factory restore restores Vista back to like it was the first day you turned on your computer.

yes, brink is right.
you need to install all of the important drivers for graphics, networking, audio etc.
you can usually do it thru device manager.

I the start menu search type in device manager. Press enter.
You should come up with this window.
30u4g2t.jpg

click on Network Adapters.
double click the device.
on the drivers tab, there should be a button below driver details called update driver.
kb92yp.jpg

let windows search for software, install and you should be prompted to restart.
do the same for Display Adapter as well.
hope this helps,

Dom
