Acer Aspire 5630 Laptop
Vista 64bit

Hi guys, my acer laptop has vista 64 on it, but I am trying to put the 32 version on in order to put 2 programs on that need to run on vista 32.

The problem is there is a password on the bios(where this came out of i don't know) and I need to boot from CD but I cannot get in to change the order, also this means I cannot use bios clearing password tools as they are off a cd.

I think the laptop holds the bios password in the eeprom and not the bios battery.I have striped down the laptop a far bit but could not find the bios battery.
The problem is I am on holiday at the moment and I don't really want to strip it totally as I am in a hotel, but I really need to get this going.asap

I have tryed some default password for the bios manufacturer, but nothing.
I wiped my laptop before and put on vista 64, but when I redownloaded the acer empowering support wiget(that would let me change the order their) that does not work and I cannot find anything on google about the issue.

Is there any programs that can do this from windows?

I havent a solution to get into your bios, but have you tried pressing F12 when you fire the laptop up to see if the boot menu is enabled?

Downloading Hirens boot cd,going to take the hardrive out and see if it will boot
off the cd then, and if it does i'll try one of the bios password removers on the cd.

nothing on the acer website, and I cannot find anywhere that tells you where the
cmos battery is located. the battery is going anyway as the clock keeps resetting,

I am wondering did this put a default password on the bios, as i defiently did not,
as I always advice people never to do it, and I am the only person who uses the laptop.

Apparently this worked for an Acer 5735z (it's a long shot)

1. remove the battery and power ON using AC adapter only..
2. try the other way around... no AC adapter only battery

try the 1 and 2 and see if the hang happens on both occasions. also you can do a reset like this:

1. remove battery and AC adapter from laptop
2. press power ON button for at least 30 secs.
3. release button and attach battery/AC adapter
4. power ON as normal

Cheers mate, but it did not work.

If I took out the harddrive. boot off the vista 32 dvd,
then as it's booting the dvd, I put back in the harddrive would this
damage the laptop? If it didn't it might work?

Hi

YES, THIS COULD DAMAGE YOUR LAPTOP BIG TIME.

My Computer

What about if I get a usb to sata connector. take out the hard, but have it pluged into
the sata connector, load up the vista install dvd and then quickly plug in the usb part of the usb-sata connector?

I used to own an Acer Aspire 5100 notebook. It ran Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. It also came pre-installed with Acer Empowering Technology. It was a suite of programs that controlled certain aspects of the notebook, ie.: network connectivity, external monitors, etc. I recall that there was a particular app that allowed you to set and change the bios password from within Windows. See if your Aspire notebook is compatible with the Acer Empowering Technology, download the apps if they are compatible and if you don't already have them.

Also, see if this helps: Recover Bios Password

I didn't thoroughly read the information within the forum post, but from what I did read, it may help you.

Best of luck.

Hi Mate,
I had vista 32 on but I removed it and installed vista 64, I tried putting on the Acer Empowering Technology apps, but they didn't work, I later found out that they are not compatible with vista 64.

I have tried all the bios passwords tools on Hirens boot cd.The problem is I am sure
the bios password is not held in the bios, but on the eeprom, I seen on another forum where a guy reset his bios password on an acer travelmate c300 tablet laptop, by moving switches relating to the eeprom, I have downloaded the acer service manual for my laptop, but can't see anything similar

If yes, use your mates to reinstall on your Hard Drive.

If NO, try wiping & reformating on a mates unit, then try reinstalling.

Doh:confused:

Yes my mate has the exact same laptop.totally forgot. But I am on holiday abroad for the next week and a half and I won't see him until then. The reason I wanted it done was I need to do some work on a few programs that will only run on xp or vista. but I will get something organised on another pc or something to run them maybe.

but thanks mate I can't believe I never thought off that:confused:

or, there are some default bios passwords that can be found in this website.
