Black SoD after restart-no curser, won't reboot

Hey all.

I installed an imaging software program that was supposed to support 64-bit, but shortly thereafter I got the black SoD. I quickly uninstalled, then went into the device manager and removed the driver for it. The computer ran fine for a day or so, even including a restart or two. Then this morning I was watching an online movie and it went to the blue screen of death, the only thing I caught of the code was 0000000001e, then it shut down. Vista 64-bit home premium was pre-installed, so I put in the reinstall version of Vista, but can't boot to it. The computer turns on to the black screen of death, but no cursor. The computer is running, and the cd even spins when I hold escape, but it will not boot into windows. I have tried F-8, along with every other F as well (and some of my own too!;)), but nothing is working.

It did boot to my windows normally one time in the middle of all of my attempts, and instead of doing a system restore (which looks like a much better choice in retrospect), I was just going to restore my entire system from an image (Acronis) using their boot disc, but unfortunately it said I needed to restart my system in order for the image to be put in place of my current image, which I clicked 'ok'....then about 1/1000 of a second later realized that wasn't the smartest thing I'd ever done, because it probably won't boot back up again.

Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chad

basically I am wondering how I can boot to my acronis rescue cd, because I can't seem to get to my bios boot menu. If not this, then what other ideas do you have to get me back to the desktop so I can do a system restore?

Thanks.

So you can't access the BIOS at all to change your boot order?

Entering the BIOS is usually achieved by pressing either F1,F2,F3,F12, Delete, Esc (every BIOS manufacturer has a different key)

maybe I mispoke

maybe i'm not exactly sure what the black screen of death really is...if it means it goes to dos, then that is NOT what I have, I simply have a black screen, just like when u'r computer is in hibernation.

No, I am not able to get into dos and the boot menu, I've tried every F1-F12 combo there is, and nothing is working.

Thx.

Same problem here. I can't tell you how many forums I've read to try and find an answer. My computer just will not start, the fans run, seems like it's starting to boot up, I get one POST beep then nothing. No BIOS, no activity on the screen at all, no flickering lights, no beeps, no anything.

I am thinking this is a video card issue, I thought I read something that was similar to this. I remember reading about a chip for the on-board video that can me removed and re-installed that re-sets the on board video. Anyone heard of this?

Sure there are a lot of "Black Screen" type issues, but not like this.

I noticed, prior to this problem happening about 2 weeks ago, there were a couple Microsoft updates within a few days. After DLing them, the computer seem to load slower and slower with each restart. Then the (true) Black Screen of Death arrived. Since then I have been at a complete loss. Tried all new Power Supply, new RAM, new Hard Drive....same issue. I reset the CLRTC jumper, took the battery out for hours, nothing seems to work.

I really hope someone can be our hero. Thanks!
