Even if you didn't have any issue with Avast untill now that is not equivalent you don't have with it issue now.Remember sucurity software update your own data base about viruses -even more from time to time it also change own drivers.During updating any security software something wrong may happen.

Of course it may going on about really issue with permissions as well.In net there is fix to reset permissions with using subinacl but it is inappriopriate for Vista/Windows 7 and doing this it would really permissions violation in the system! - oryginal permissions shouldn't be changed.But there is way to diagnose issue with permissions and easy fix anly in particular places where really need.

Run Process Monitor Process Monitor

open Windows Update and try to install something -when WU return error save log in PM in *.PML format (File>>Save as).Pack PM log any tool and upload on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

I am no vista expert...I have had many operating systems though DOS 5 was my first...have to say VISTA is really a problem with all these required updates....

I have vista 64 as well as your 32 vista...I also have AVAST and spybot and have had no issues...

what happened this sept 2009 however on the 64 vista was this error update code..

the problem appears to be in my case the microsoft office SP2 update was the cause...if you can command the system to repair the update...then after that re-boot...

My Computer

Ok.. i'm gonna be honest.. I have spent weeks trying to figure out what you two are saying...

But i have done the things that most people suggest to do, repairing windows (did nothing) doing some long ass process that involves using the command lines they give you in a .BAT format;

Code:
@echo off

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f

subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

@Echo =========================

@Echo Finished.

@Echo =========================

@pause

yeah.. so, i am still getting the error.. can i get some help thats a little easier to understand? Cause i dun like having my PC so unupdated...

You shouldn't listen bad advice.As I said you shouldn't to apply this to Vista/Windows 7,but even this brutal fix can't penetrate all folders and keys in the system.My post 2- log from Process Monitor is needed.

Well, there is the link to where i have the file.. I think i did it right, i honestly have no idea how to use that program, but a NEW problem has arisen.

The Widows Activation is saying that i don't have a legitimate product key, even though I KNOW for a FACT that its legit, since its the one i got with my PC... Not sure what to do here about that o.o

My Computer

I would call/EMAIL microsoft about the operating system not being accepted as genuine.

I posted a question on their forums. Hopefully i get a response soon.. this is starting to piddle me off.

Update: Got my copy reactivated. Phone call took care of that.

Update 2: Alright, so i went to the forums, checked my error, and was told to do this;

  • Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  • Type the following command, and then press ENTERsfc /scannow
    The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
Which did nothing.

Then i was told to do this;

Code:
Method 2:-
The error code : 8007005 means trouble with permissions. Please perform the below steps,

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin)
and type:  secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

It told me an extended error had occured, and this is what i got in the log file;

Check both things:

1.Check permissions for C:\Windows\WinSxS folder:

correct permissions should be following:

the owner:TrustedInstaller

permissions:

Administrators - (Read,Read & Execute,List folder contents)
System - (Read,Read & Execute,List folder contents)
Users - (Read,Read & Execute,List folder contents)
TrustedInstaller -full control (all checked)

2. check also permissions for HKEY_LOCALE_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurruntVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update key

the owner:Administrators

permissions:

Administrators:full control (all checked)
System:full control (all checked)
Users:read

Alright, well i managed to reinstate the permissions for the folder. But for the Registry edit thingy something called "Creator Owner" has Special permissions, and i can't seem to get rid of it and my Users collum has full permissions too and the ability to get rid of IT is greyed out. Is this a problem?

Creator Owner defaultly have full control only for all subkeys (details about permissions are available in advaced options) but it s not very important,as I said before:Users group have defaultly only "read".If permissions are OK and tools reported trouble with permissions this means it is false alert and problem is in something another - some files are used by any 3p applications or any other issue.Try install updates on clean boot How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use
